About 1: TRUCKER GAL DIARIES
Tales of one woman’s journey into the world of Trucking - Lauren Saige the Trucker Gal
The plan for Trucker Gal Dairies is to be an inspiration for women to get into this industry, to become truck drivers, to inspire, give hope, publish a blog, develop a YouTube Channel, do a podcast interviewing truckers, former truckers, artists, thinkers and dreamers, eventually publish a cookbook and guide for meal prep over the road, provide tips and tricks for new drivers. I will share stories of my over-the-road adventures, experiences and explore topics that are common to the human experience, and provide links to educational videos by other bloggers and pod-casters out there.
Tag along with me if you find the Idea of trucking interesting. Trucker Gal Diaries is meant to be informative, inspirational, and at times amusing. I would love to hear from you, especially if something touches or inspires you along the way.
The first four blogs chronicle the beginning of my journey to becoming a truck driver.
Benjamin Vincent, a wonderful Caricature artist, illustrator, and friend out of Texas, did my caricature for the header. If you are interested in his services, you can click on his name to get to his website and check him out.

“I saw the winds shift, the times change, the power structure moving away from me and there was nothing I could do about it but watch and wait. I knew It was time for something new - my bucket list had arrived with a lifelong dream. I would transition to become an over-the-road trucker after a 30-year career in design and illustration. This is my Journey”
For 30 years I made a living as an illustrator and a collectibles and giftware designer. One year ago that career came to an end. Of course, it was not the “end” of my life or my story. In a way, it was a new and exciting beginning. I had dreamed for years of becoming an over-the-road trucker. I didn’t realize for how long but many friends, one that I hadn’t talked to in years, reminded me that I’ve talked about this for at least five to ten years. Until now it didn’t make financial sense to follow this dream but now the time had come and a new adventure awaited.
I enrolled in and graduated from the Hamrick Driving School in Medina Ohio, passed the Ohio commercial driver license class A skills test, and became a driver for Werner Enterprises.
The nice thing about over-the-road driving is one has a lot of time to think, contemplate, and dream.
While I wouldn’t trade my past experience for any amount of money, I needed time away from a life of commercial art, office politics, and the cumulative stress that comes with corporate life.
Eight months into my driving career and I’m beginning to feel human again, relaxed, hopeful, and creative.
Join the conversation in this journey if you find it interesting, inspiring, hopeful.
Join in on my blog, watch for the podcast, and youtube channel to come. My blog will include over-the-road recipes, commentary, and conversations about life, relationships, dreams, and aspirations - all in the hopes of inspiring, and increasing civil and nuanced conversation about what affects us as Americans in an age of hostility, disillusionment, anger, and polarization. How has the isolation of covid changed us? What is our place in the world? Past present future? What should it be or not be? How do we navigate an evolving human, ai, and social ecosystem and keep our sanity, build lasting and real relationships? How do we learn increased flexibility, to be open to change, and be good people in an increasingly polarized society? I don’t have all the answers, I’m not a psychologist but I’m a parent, a human with enough years of experience filled with enough mistakes to have learned a few things. If you want to join in an ongoing conversion sign up for my blog and tune into my upcoming youtube channel.
